The Jennifer Snyder Teen Heart Foundation is a nonprofit 501c3 organization that fulfills its mission by awarding grants to community outdoor fields lacking Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs). Through the installation of publicly accessible AEDs,protecting communities from Sudden Cardiac Death—the number one killer of student athletes and part of the number two medical cause of death under age 25.
The foundation is governed by a Board of Directors which has oversight of the granting program. The organization was founded in memory of 17-year-old Jenny Snyder, who suffered a Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) while playing soccer in Glenview, Illinois in 2008. An AED, the only definitive method to resuscitate Jenny, was not available on site.
Over the last decade, the Jennifer Lynn Snyder Teen Heart Foundation has equipped park fields in Northbrook and Glenview, Illinois—including the field where Jenny collapsed—with AEDs to protect the youth who play there.
It is Jenny’s Mission to solicit grant applications and place AEDs throughout the Chicagoland community.
Northbrook is a community of 33,400 residents with the majority reporting using the parks weekly. Its parks also draw patrons from Glenview, Deerfield, Wheeling and surrounding communities for tournaments and special events. The Park District estimates 225,000 visitors per year.
